    When the sad news about the passing of Glenn Frey hit the internet, there were varying reports about the precise cause of death of the Eagles’ guitarist and singer.

    A post on the band’s website stated Frey had “succumbed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.” And in an interview with the entertainment and media news website TheWrap, Eagles manager Irving Azoff said Frey’s death could be blamed in part on the RA medications he was taking. (There have been no public reports about which medications Frey was taking.)

    “The colitis and pneumonia were side effects from all the meds,” Azoff told TheWrap. “He died from complications of [ulcerative] colitis after being treated with drugs for his rheumatoid arthritis, which he had for over 15 years.”

    The death of Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey came as a shock to many — even those close to him — as seen in the upcoming episode of "How It Really Happened with Hill Harper," airing on CNN's HLN network.

    Frey was born in November 1948 in Detroit. He was inspired by The Beatles after attending their show in 1964 at Olympia Stadium in Detroit with his aunt. 

    The Royal Oak resident formed his first band, called Mushrooms. with four other members in 1967. While performing with this band, Frey met fellow Detroit artist Bob Seger.

    Frey said meeting Seger was one of the most important things that happened to him in Detroit, according to the HLN series. With Seger's help, Frey's first band released a single called Lovely Child.
